Sean Dillard is the Principal of Second Order and leads every engagement. He holds an MBA from Stanford University and a bachelor of science in mathematics from Duke University, and he has advised clients independently since 2022.
He began in strategy consulting at Boston Consulting Group, where he owned the indirect procurement workstream of a Fortune 500 cost transformation. He then joined Red Ventures, where he launched a digital health product inside the Healthgrades physician marketplace and grew it to approximately $15 million in annual revenue, running the pharma-partnered marketing programs and the physician-targeting algorithm behind it. He is also a Managing Director, Capital Advisory, at Nassau Street Partners.
The independent practice has covered SBA lender packages, growth-equity operating models, fund distribution waterfalls, acquisition underwriting, and custom underwriting tools for repeat buyers. The part Sean likes is deciding which assumption carries the case, since that is the one a reader tests first.
